5F) Safety gaps.

Safety gaps are important to protect your PSU, capacitors and to help prevent voltage spikes from entering your house wiring. Most safety gaps are simple affairs with an electrode connected to each side of the transformer, and a center electrode connected to the RF ground. When the voltage in the system rises too high, the gaps fire and the excess current is sent to ground. Without safety gaps, you will blow caps and transformers sooner or later. More information on constructing and adjusting safety gaps can be found HERE.
